This rusty piece of metal is called a heat exchanger. This particular heat exchanger came out of a 12 year old unit. It’s job is to keep the flames and the air being moved through the heater separate while gas heaters are operating in the heat cycle. Over time the metal that makes up the heat exchanger can decay, causing cracks and resulting in carbon monoxide leaking in the air stream of the conditioned space.

For those of us with gas heaters, TODAY don’t forget to check the batteries in the carbon monoxide testers.

One of the services we provide is a performance inspection for $69.50 per unit. In addition to testing all of the individual parts for the heater, we test for natural gas leaks and carbon monoxide throughout the heating system. We do so using both testing equipment and visual inspections.
