5 Ways to Lower Your Heating Bill

There are 5 simple ways to lower your heating bill during the upcoming winter months.  With just a little time and effort, you can realize cost savings of up to 20%.  That can be a significant savings during the coldest months of the year.  The U.S. Energy Information Association is predicting an increase in heating costs between 9 and 13 percent, so being able to save on these costs can be beneficial.

The easiest way to recognize the most in cost savings is making sure your home is completely sealed.  Check the interior and exteriors of all windows, making sure they are properly sealed.  Do the same thing for your exterior doors and look around your chimney and skylight casings for any gaps.  If you have recessed lighting, make sure there are no drafts entering your home from the recess.  If you want added insulation, you can get sliding draft guards for under your doors.

When your furnace filter gets dirty, it slows down the air that flows through it.  Your system has to work that much harder to keep your house warm and this will cost more money in the long run.  Be sure and change your furnace filters regularly so your furnace can run at maximum efficiency.

Use your thermostat wisely.  If you don’t have one that you can program or preset, then turn your thermostat down when you are leaving the house and when you are sleeping.  If you have one that can be programmed, you can set it to lower the temperature when you are away or asleep and reset when you come back home or right before you wake up.  Just reducing your normal temperature setting by one or two degrees will help reduce your energy costs.

Pull back the drapes, open the blinds and let the sunshine in.  This is such an easy way to raise the temperature in your home during the sunny time of the day.  This is especially helpful if you have windows on the south or western side of your home.

The final way to save on your heating costs is to have routine maintenance service.  If you have your system checked out twice a year, once towards the end of spring and again just before the winter months, your heating system will perform more efficiently, therefore saving you energy costs.  Climate Tech Air Conditioning & Heating are energy experts.  With our ClimateCare Program, you will not only be a preferred customer, but will receive twice yearly check-ups as part of the program.  Call Climate Tech Air Conditioning & Heating today and find out more on how we can help you save on your energy bills.
